Deliberate Heat Exposure (via Sauna) Protocols for Health & Performance Sauna sessions don't start until you want to get out - thats when the resilience practice begins. Rhonda Patrick is a great source for sauna knowledge (great listen below): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWkv9ad7zvc Heat triggers some of the same mechanisms in the brain and body as if you were engaged in cardiovascular exercise. While in the sauna, heart rate and blood flow increase, blood vessels will vasodilate (expand) as your body works to cool down in order to regulate body temperature. Sauna Tips: - Hydrate before (at least 16 oz per 10 min of sauna) - Be in a fasted state (no food for 2-3 hours prior to) - Wear good attire - Dial your breath & mind Sauna Protocol examples for weekly implementation: - Get Sauna to 180 - 210 degrees - Stay in for 10 to 20 min per session - Repeat 2 to 3x per week or as often as 7x times per week **More often appears to be better with respect to cardiovascular health Sauna Growth Hormone Release: - Multiple sessions of 30 min each - Cool down periods between of 5 min - 30 min sauna, 5 min cool down, 30 min sauna, 5 min cool down - Take a few hours off and then repeat this for a total of 4 30 min sessions! Deliberate heat exposure benefits: - overall health - the tolerable heat stress helps body positively adapt to stress. Sauna releases heath shock proteins which help repair protein structure within cells. - improved cardio vascular health - Improved mood - body responds to heat with release of dynorphins (agitation and discomfort) and endorphins in brain which effects our mood and body. - Adjusts hormone levels - Increases performance - Enhances Recovery Safety Measures: - Pregnant women and children younger than 16 should not sauna - Start slow - using cooler temps that don't significantly increase heart rate - Men trying to conceive children - repeated sauna can reduce sperm count . It rebounds after 45-60 days

Testimonials

After working with Harrison I am extremely confident with the tool box of protocols and routines I can use on and off the ice this season. I have a whole new approach to using the breath to enhance my performance on ice but also recovery off the ice. Understanding how to recover faster is the name of the game and what Harrison taught me is changing my approach. Michael Kapla - SHL Player

Harrison has taught me functional breathing techniques and in 3 sessions over 3 weeks of practice I was able to take 40 seconds off my fastest time on a uphill running time trial....my aerobic capacity is much greater, sensitivity to CO2 build up is much better and my respiratory muscles are stronger. Breath is now a tool for my racing toolbox.

About Sauna Papi

Breath, Mindset & Movement Specialist

Luis Leonardo, the Sauna Papi, and his right hand man, Harrison Klein are pioneering the development of protocols to optimize human health & performance and take control of your life! Serving as their own lab rats, on a search for the most universal performance and wellness enhancing routines, they discovered the power of applying breath and intentional practices to sauna, cold therapy and movement modalities. Luis, an ex-professional triathlete with over 3 decades in the health & fitness industry, who is the founder of Embrace North a sauna and cold therapy service in Minneapolis (now with 800 subscribers), teamed up with Breath & Movement Specialist, Harrison Klein, who is endlessly curious about expanding the human spirit, to open their gym, called Built To Breathe that implements a “breath first” approach to all of the current training modalities. They are combining concepts from Embrace North/Built To Breathe and now facilitate “Sauna Papi” exposure workshops combining nature, movement, breath-work, cold water immersion and sauna therapy. Understanding how stress and our relationship with stress shapes our human behavior is a key part of what they are pursuing. Their core objectives are to tear down the traditional blocks in breathwork practices, remove any stigmas behind suffer culture in the fitness industry, and make these tools available to all audiences, regardless of the entry point. These two believe breath control is the most powerful tool for improving resilience, managing stress, and enhancing human performance for EVERY living human. They now want to share these amazing experiences they are facilitating and practicing daily with the masses, as they serve as a strategic launch pad for people to experience personal transformation. The Sauna Papi Lifestyle app challenges your mental game just as much as physical and emphasizes the importance of recovery in the form of breathwork, intentional movement, sauna and cold therapy.
