IASTM stands for Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. Sounds crazy, but you have probably used some of these techniques. "Instruments" include tennis balls, voodoo floss, foam rollers, massage guns, scrapers and more.

The goal of this series is to help you use these tools in the most effective ways to relieve pain, reduce muscular tension, increase mobility and improve recovery. 
In IASTM for the Lower Leg, we cover: 

1. The role of the lower leg in absorbing shock through athletics and daily life
2. Brief anatomy overview, including the calf (gastrocnemius & soleus), posterior and anterior tibialis, toe flexors, extensors and more!
3. How to find a soft tissue restriction
4. Techniques to work on lower leg, foot and ankle restrictions using a tennis/lacrosse ball, voodoo floss, cane, massage gun and scraper.
5. Proper dosage - when and how often to perform IASTM to these areas

If you ever need to modify intensity of these techniques, use the PTSD acronym:
1. Pressure (Increase/Decrease)
2. Tissue Length (Increase/Decrease)
3. Static vs Dynamic techniques (which involve moving the body)

IASTM Application 
 - Before training, 30-60 sec each point of restriction
 - After Training, 90-120 sec at each point of restriction
 - 3x/wk or more for best results
 - Avoid sharp or severe pain
