Beginner Build is an eight-week strength-training program designed to help complete beginners go from passive to practiced—building the confidence, consistency, and foundational strength needed to feel comfortable exercising and using dumbbells. For this program you will need your bodyweight, a light pair of dumbbells and a heavy pair of dumbbells, along with a workout bench or chair.
Every workout follows an EMOM format, meaning “every minute on the minute.” At the beginning of each minute, you will complete the assigned exercise and use any remaining time to rest before the next minute begins. The built-in timer keeps each workout simple, structured, and efficient, so you always know exactly what to do and how long your workout will take.
Week 1: Build the Foundation
You will complete three 20-minute full-body workouts using primarily bodyweight exercises with some light dumbbell work. This week is focused on learning the basic movement patterns, developing proper form, consistency, and building confidence without feeling overwhelmed.
Weeks 2–3: Build the Habit
You will progress to four 20-minute workouts each week: two full-body days, one upper-body day, and one lower-body day. You will continue using bodyweight movements while gradually incorporating your sets of dumbbells more often. This phase increases your weekly training frequency while helping exercise become a consistent part of your routine.
Weeks 4–8: Build the Strength
You will advance to five 30-minute workouts each week: two upper-body days, two lower-body days, and one full-body day. The workouts will include less bodyweight training and more resistance work using both a light and heavy set of dumbbells. Training your upper- and lower-body muscle groups twice each week provides more focused strength work and supports continued muscle development.
