Week 4 : Goal is for the word, the verbal cue place creates excitement in our dog and the dog runs to place. In order to continue to week 4. 

1 - your dog should engaged you without you even asking the dog to look at you.

2- your dog gets excited just seeing the bed or just by being in that training room with your pouch.

3- your dog is excited and wants to work. 

If you are not seeing these reactions in your dog do not continue and go to week 4 because something is missing.

Week 4 place Command

Week 4: The goal is for the dog to run and jump on the bed as soon as it hears “place”. We are focusing on using these words. “Place” & “yes”, if the dog ignores us once we will say “nope” either point at the bed or move closer towards the bed.

What to do when the dog ignores you

What is room service ? It is duration the word “good”. We will not use it alot yet. However We will add a new pattern in our way of communicating with our dogs. We will wait 2 to 5sec after we say place and say “yes”. We are looking for the dog to either sit or lay down. At the end of the exercise we will walk toward the bed and jackpot the dog on the bed. Meaning give the dog all the rest of the food you have on you. Make sure the dog is excited and you jackpot a behavior you want.

Introducing room service

What is jackpot ? Jackpot is us giving the dog a huge quantity of food or treats because the dog did a behavior fantastic close to perfection.

What is jackpots 🎰 777 ?

The Goal is to not repeat 🔁 yourself. Repeat the exercise, not your command. See what you say not as a command, but as a gateway for the dog to get what it wants and what you want. 

Place - wait a few seconds & say Yes

Or walk over and reward the dog continuously for remaining in place.

Place & duration without words

Goal : practice sending the dog to place with an outside distraction, that is far not near us. The goal is not to get the dog comfortable or over the distractions. The goal is to get our dog engaged then do place. Outside in the backyard or in the front yard.

Switching environments is important

Goal: to get our dog to go to place with low distractions (the placement bed is on the side). Duke was not paying attention, at all. Duke kept paying attention to the neighbors dog instead of me. Our dog now is engagement. We cannot proceed forward without no engagement. We want the exercise to be fun for the dog avoid any kind of correction/ negative feedback on the leash until you have engagement.

Engagement before place

Goal to get our dog to have fun listening to US (the placement bed is on the side). It doesn’t matter what our goal is at first. Once we start adding distractions & switching environments our dog will behave differently. We need to always go back into week 1, 2, 3, or 4 to give our dog a quick reminder ; “ what we teach you inside, & outside we expect everywhere “. That is what we want our dog to learn and we want the dog to have fun learning that.
