Dribbling the ball is one thing, but dribbling the ball while encountering a defender who is actively pressuring the ball is a totally different thing. As a ball handler, we have to be able to keep our off hand active while maintaining full control of the ball at the same time. This partner drill is one of the best ways that we can practice real game situation and improve control of our dribble.

This Drill can be done both, stationary and/or on the move. Partner can reach for the ball with their hand, or use foam roller for example. As a partner who is playing defense, you want to mainly reach for the ball when a player with a ball performs a hand switch/crossover, thats is when the ball is the most vulnerable and when defender is the most tempted to reach for it. Every time defense is reaching for the ball, ball handler needs to engage his off hand and swipe defender’s arm down.
