I worked with Dr. Helms for a lower back injury I sustained while weight training. His assessment was quick yet thorough, deriving the cause of my muscular pain. He worked with me through different stretching routines and core exercises to begin my rehab. Once enough progress had been made, he helped me with establishing new movement patterns to help reduce the chance of repeat injury. Finally, he coached me on my lifting technique so that it is more appropriate for my body structure allowing me to continue to make progress while reducing injury risk and long term use damage. I scheduled a fairly urgent appointment with Dr. Paul Helms due to a lower back injury I had suffered. I was unable to walk and function in a normal manner when I went in for the first appointment. Dr. Paul immediately isolated the location and cause of my injury and quickly created a program to get me moving again and with no pain. Paul is fantastic to work with and I would highly recommend him for lower back pain. He is always very professional and does a great job explaining the causation of the issues I was having in my lower back. I really appreciate that not only does he help with instant pain management but also provides tips and guidance for long-term pain relief by making minor adjustments with my form and focusing on core strength. Paul also took the time to send videos of the exercises I needed to work on in between visits, which I found very helpful as I sometimes forgot the name of the workout. But once I saw the video it reminded me of what we went over and I was able to ensure my form was correct. Results and recovery are completely up to the patient and Paul does a great job creating regimens that are very manageable and easy to follow. You can tell Paul really cares about his job as he’s always just as excited about us feeling better as we are. I have been seeing Paul now for a few months and have progressed tremendously. After a comprehensive examination Paul was able to isolate what my issues were and how he would go about treating me without resorting to risky adjustments (something I was wary of). I followed his treatment plan and after my second visit and a bit or work at home with his exercises I was basically pain free. The next couple of visits helped to extend my program of exercises coupled with some treatment to loosen my back muscles (quite enjoyable) and I am doing just great! We are now working on strengthening my back so I do not have a repeat issue as well as the means to sustain my progress and back function. Frequently asked questions

Who are these workouts for?
Low Back Recovery 1 is an 8-week program designed for individuals who struggle with low back pain, particularly made worse with lumbar spine flexion (rounding forward), and feel better with lumbar spine extension (bending backward or staying upright), while walking and bending backwards (standing or arching your back when laying face down) make things feel better.
What are the goals of this program?
The goal is to decrease pain while increasing the strength, durability, and resiliency of your spine so that you can get back to the activities you love!
What do I need to participate?
The program requires minimal equipment (at the least you need a towel, a weighted object, a stick/broom, and a swiss ball or other elevated surface life a chair/bed/ottoman) and progresses throughout the 8 week period. Other than that, you just need patient and commitment in prder to start seeing the results you want!
What's the schedule?
As it was designed, each workout is to be performed daily for 2 weeks before moving on to the next 2-week block, BUT some people will find that staying on a certain workout for several weeks may be more appropriate for them if they find benefit from it or need more time until they move on to the next workout. And that's okay! Take as long as you need on each routine...there is NO RUSH!
How will I get the best results?
Be patient. Be consistent. And know that although you should be seeing some noticeable (and many times, big) progress in 8 weeks, you will continue to notice more significant changes in how you feel and how you move if you stick with it for months/ years/life!
Are there modifications for exercises?
Yes! If you find that certain exercises seem to be too challenging or even uncomfortable, please don't hesitate to reach out to me via direct message (see the 3 dots at the top right corner of the app) so that can give you a modification or alternative.
