Paul is a miracle worker. After just three hour-long sessions, I have noticeably improved mobility in my shoulders and hip flexors. Thanks to this improved mobility, I am lifting a bit heavier. I also just FEEL better, with less stiffness and greater flexibility. In addition, Paul is a good guy who takes the time to explain what he is doing in a way that is comprehensible to the average person, and he also provides a personalized list of exercises and stretches (via e-mail, PDFs and YouTube videos) to work on at home. Definitely worth every penny and I would highly recommend Helms Performance to anyone with mobility issues or anyone looking for some preventative maintenance.

I can't recommend Dr. Paul Helms highly enough for anyone needing expert care in sports-related injuries (or non-sports). Two months ago, I injured my hip through a combo of pickleball, running, and cycling. Dr. Paul worked with me, diagnosing my issue(s) accurately and came up with a game plan to get me back out. It turns out I didn't quite know how to use my body properly, overusing certain muscles, and eventually straining, then injuring them. Dr. Paul came up with a personalized rehab program that was just right for me. It was the perfect combination of doable and challenging. One thing I really appreciated, compared to normal physical therapy, is the freedom to be able to address any new thing that came up. The body is a very complex, interconnected system, so addressing one part usually ends up affecting other parts. Fixing up weak glutes can eventually show that you've got some weak knees, etc. Dr. Paul was able to come up with a game plan for anything I threw at him, giving me new exercises to do and strengthening/fixing up whatever part was needed. More importantly, his expertise worked! This last week I was able to play in a pickleball tournament for 6 hours, go on a couple runs, and go on a long bike ride. So happy to be not only back to baseline, but stronger and more stable than before. If you're injured or just wanting to get stronger, I highly recommend!

Muscles and joints are a major source of limitation in the activities we cherish. Arthritis and muscle spasms impair our ability to work and to enjoy life. Medical doctors have limited tools to help us. Antiinflammation drugs and joint injections can provide partial relief, but usually not enough. Orthopedic surgeons carry out joint replacements which are too often needed when knees and hips wear out. Back surgery is a major life investment which sometimes helps, but sometimes is not always and perhaps not often enough. What Dr. Paul Helms brings to us is an extraordinary understanding of the interplay of muscles and joints. He uses specific muscular actions to counteract unfavorable interplay of opposing muscles and to alleviate stress on joints. His approach is highly individualized based on the specific problems and complaints of his patients. His goal is not to cure but to improve, and the improvement he achieves is impressive and often sufficient to avoid surgical intervention. He has helped me with back pain, neck pain, hip pain, and wrist pain. I was connected to him by my children who have a variety of sports related issues, mainly related to running, and I am glad I listened to my kids.
