We've designed this program around training for a Spartan race! We love doing the Spartan and have learned some great lessons over the combined 7 races we've completed (5 Beasts and 2 Supers). The program focuses on 4 main things: Trail Running Endurance Grip Strength Relative Strength (strength relative to body weight) Muscular Endurance Obviously the race is a trail race so the trail running endurance is self-explanatory. Many of the obstacles require grip strength, so we want to ensure that you have adequate strength to complete the obstacles. Maximum strength means that every movement easier, but we don't want to increase strength at the expense of gaining weight (carrying extra weight up the mountain or across obstacles isn't optimal) This is a multiple hour race. You will accumulate fatigue as you go, so being able to display your strength even when fatigued is very important. This program is designed to prepare you to run a Spartan Race. The distances are designed around helping you complete a Beast (21k) race. If you use these distances in preparation for a Super (10k) then you can be more competitive. These distances are excessive for a Sprint (5k). If running a sprint it would be better to focus on speed than on these longer distances. The program itself is still great for any race. I continued to stay active throughout my entire pregnancy, which was a huge blessing, but I felt like something was missing from my life after I gave birth to her. I didn’t feel like myself. I wasn’t aware of it at the time, but I had pretty bad postpartum depression. We lived in a basement apartment and as fall turned to winter the days shortened and I couldn’t get myself outside and moving. Once spring rolled around I was able to make a change. I didn’t want to lose my health and fitness that had been so important to me just because I started having kids. Haden and I started writing lifting programs together and would go on morning runs before he went to school and I started to feel like myself again! It was training that pulled me out of depression and helped me feel like myself again. I’ve learned how to prioritize my health and have had two more kids while maintaining my fitness!” - Camille
