What is an AMRAP?

AMRAP, which stands for "As Many Rounds As Possible," is a popular workout type of high-intensity interval training (HIIT).

This type of workout will challenge you to complete as many rounds of a specific set of exercises within a fixed time frame (in this case 15 minutes).

The idea is to push yourself, aiming to maximise the number of rounds you can complete in the allotted time.

WHAT IS HIIT?

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a popular and effective form of exercise that involves alternating between intense bursts of activity and fixed periods of less intense activity or rest.

This form of training can be adapted to various fitness levels, making it suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. One common HIIT protocol is the 40:20 interval, where you perform 40 seconds of high-intensity exercise followed by 20 seconds of rest or lower-intensity exercise.

This ratio helps maximise calorie burn, improve cardiovascular fitness, and increase muscular endurance. By pushing your body to its limits during the high-intensity intervals and then allowing it to recover during the rest periods, you can achieve significant fitness gains in a shorter amount of time compared to steady-state cardio

DDF 14 DAY CHALLENGE

W1/D1 DDF 14: WEEK 1 - DAY 1 = Lower Body Fundamentals

- Stand upright, holding a dumbbell in one hand at arms length, forward of the body, with a neutral grip (palms facing in)
- Step forward with one leg in to a split stance
- Hinge forward at the hip on the front leg and allow the working arm to hang down from the shoulder
- Row the dumbbell up by driving the elbow behind the body while retracting your shoulder blade
- Pause and squeeze at peak contraction before lowering the dumbbell back down to starting position with control
- Complete desired reps then repeat on the opposite side

WHAT IS ACTIVE RECOVERY?

Active recovery is a crucial component of any fitness routine. It involves engaging in low-intensity physical activities following intense exercise to help the body recover and repair itself.

Examples of active recovery exercises include walking, swimming, gentle yoga, or cycling at a leisurely pace.

These activities promote blood flow to the muscles, which can help reduce soreness and stiffness. Active recovery also aids in flushing out toxins from the muscles and improving overall circulation, ultimately speeding up the recovery process.

W1/D3 DDF 14: WEEK 1  - DAY 3 = Active Recovery Workout

- Stand upright, holding a dumbbell at the chest with both hands underneath the top head of the dumbbell
- Then split your feet, moving one foot forward and the other foot back into a staggered split stance
- Maintaining an upright posture and allowing both knees to bend simultaneously, descend until your back knee nearly touches the floor
- Drive through the heel of your front foot, extending both legs to raise yourself back up
- Complete desired reps then repeat on the opposite side

- Grab two dumbbells and get into a high plank position 
- The dumbbells should shoulder-width apart,  your feet slightly wider than your hips for greater stability
- While maintaining a rigid body position, row one dumbbell toward your hip by using your lat and driving your elbow up and back, hips and shoulders should be squared toward the floor
- With control, return the dumbbell to the starting position and repeat the movement on the opposite side
- Perform a single push up
- After you perform a row on each side and a push up, you've completed one full repetition
