I’m Amy!
In fall 2012 I was diagnosed with Tumor Onset Epilepsy. I started having frequent seizures that could not be controlled with medication. I began endless trips to doctors and surgeons.
I began to gain weight at the beginning of my diagnosis. . It was depressing and dark. While I tried to grasp onto some type of a normal life.
At the time, I was a single mom. My kids had been taken out of their private school and moved into public school, I had stopped working, I couldn’t drive, I was going to the Dr. all the time, I was on new medications that affected me in ways you can’t imagine..... Exhaustion, sleeplessness, mood swings, depression... I felt like I was out of my body. I had lost myself.
One day I decided that the only way I was going to get out of this darkness was to fight like hell everyday. So, that is what I did. No one was going to save me. I could only save myself.
I loved fitness. I leaned into strength training and nutrition. I started taking care of my body. I became stronger inside and out. I decided to go back to school online and get a degree in Exercise Science. I knew deep down in my soul. I was meant to help other people do this because it can be done. It’s not always perfect. It’s messy. It’s hard. But you are worth it. Your health is worth it. I’m not just talking about your physical health, but your emotional and mental health too. You can all do this. If I can, anyone can.
I had brain surgery in the fall of 2013 to remove my tumor, however I will always have epilepsy. I will continue to be on medication for the rest of my life. I choose not to live in fear of what could happen, but instead be thankful and see the good. I am thankful for everything that has happened in my life.
I went back to school in 2013 and I now have a degree in Exercise Science. I am also a certified nutrition coach and Yoga Ins. Currently, I am studying to be a certified Behavioral Change Specialist.
